My best friend and roommate Jim suffers from Parkinsons Disease. Believe me, Michael J. Fox was not exaggerating his symptoms when he made that commercial in Missouri. I see it every day, and if there’s any hope of finding a cure, then I’m all for it.
And don’t give me that bull about ‘all life is sacred.’ If the Bush administration actually believed that, then why has it sent almost three thousand Americans to their deaths in a futile and pointless war? Life isn’t sacred, it’s just nature’s way of keeping meat fresh. And if leftover embryos from fertility clinics — which would just be destroyed anyway — can help put an end to diseases that plague humanity, then we should be pursuing it. When religion starts standing in the way of human progress, then it’s time to ditch religion. I mean, they’re cute fairy tales and they make great Cecil B. DeMille movies, but really, people!
