Jews

You hear a lot these days about the “Jewish Conspiracy” that is secretly running the entire world. I don’t believe a word of it, myself. In fact, if there is any religion I respect, it is the Jews.

First of all look at their history. Throughout the ages, everyone has been out to destroy them: the Egyptians, the Babylonians, the Romans, the Spanish Inquisition, the Nazis, the KKK, the Muslims … their list of enemies is endless, yet they survive. They not only survive, they prevail. They persevere and retain their cultural identity while fitting seamlessly into our own world.

Maybe the Jews do have a larger cut in the financial world, but this dates back to the Middle Ages, where Christians weren’t allowed to lend money for interest because the Bible speaks against it (Exodus 22:25-27; Deuteronomy 23:19-20; Matthew 25). Jews, who had a more relaxed approach to their Scriptures, could and did charge interest, and thus they became rich. It’s not unlike how America became so wealthy by using slave labor before the Civil War.

Jews don’t fly airplanes into skyscrapers. Jews don’t kill doctors and blow up clinics.

Best of all, what I like about Jews is that I have never seen a Jew on television or on a street corner screaming at me that I had to be Jewish or I was going to go to hell. They relate to their god quietly and privately, and leave the rest of us out of it.

I think the best depiction of Jews as I see them was the characters of Julius (Judd Hirsch) and David (Jeff Goldblum) Levinson in the film Independence Day. (Both, I should add, are Jewish actors, so I consider their characters to be authentic.) Julius, the father, doesn’t “pray,” he “talks to God.” I liked that concept. Maybe if more of us just talked to God instead of whimpering in terror before Him, we’d know more about what He wants. Or, when he doesn’t talk back, realize that he does not exist.

And these are the people some think are controlling the world behind the scenes? We should be so lucky!
