Like all states, Minnesota has two senators. Both of ours are Democrats.
Amy Klobuchar
Our senior senator is Amy Klobuchar. She was elected in 2004 Before she was a senator, she was the County Attorney (our local equivalent of the D.A.) and she did a pretty good job of it, though she may have been a little bit bloodthirsty when she first got the gig. She replaced Mark Dayton, who had decided not to run for re-election, and was considered cowardly by many when he totally closed down his Washington DC office following the September 11 attacks. He’s our governor now.
Al Franken
Our newly elected junior senator is Al Franken, former writer for Saturday Night Live and the creator of Stuart Smalley and other memorable characters. He had to take on incumbent republican Norm Coleman in a hotly contested race that took seven months to resolve. I know Al is going to do a good job. He’s good enough, he’s smart enough, and gosh darn it, he’s gonna drive Bill O’Reilly abso-freakin-lutely nuts!
Ms. Klobuchar will be up for re-election in 2012.
