Some days I’m just glad I never have to leave the house. This is one of those days. When I woke up this morning, The WeatherBug was reporting that the temperature was –21ºF and that it had gotten as low as –25ºF at about 1:00 this morning. Even by Minnesota standards that’s pretty freakin’ cold. Now that the sun is rising, the temperature has “warmed up” to –19º and today’s forecast high temperature is going to be zero. Okay, so it’s going to be one of those days. We typically have one each winter, usually right around this time of year. Fortunately, we’ll be “warming up” into the 20s by Monday. Giving a speech at an event such as last night’s memorial in Tucson following the tragic shooting rampage of Jared Lee Loughner – a name not even mentioned during the proceedings – is kind of like walking across a frozen lake in Minnesota this time of year. Hazards are all around, and in many places the ice is so thin that nobody in their right mind should tread there, lest they fall through into an icy, watery grave.
