The battle between science and religion is nothing new. It dates back to the 17th Century, when Galileo was imprisoned for heresy when he theorized that the earth travels around the sun, which is in direct contradiction to scripture verses which state, “the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.” (Psalms 93:1) and “The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.” (Ecclesiastes 1:5) So here we have this heathen scientist preaching heliocentrism, the theory that the sun stays put and the earth travels around it. Heresy! Send for the inquisition!  In 1996 Galileo was “rehabilitated” by the Catholic Church. (In this context, rehabilitate means to undo an excommunication.)
