Food, Glorious Food!

MykeFor a couple of years now, I’ve been hearing Myke brag about what a good cook he is. Yesterday, he proved it. It was a lazy, boring Sunday, and he invited me over just to hang around, drink some beer, and see his place, which I had never been to. When I got there, I learned that dinner was part of the arrangement, so I got on the phone and invited Jim over.

It was probably one of the tastiest dinners I’ve had in a while. They grilled a pork roast and Myke made a hearty country gravy to go with it. There was a pasta salad and a tasty garden salad (and I mean that in the literal sense: all of the ingredients were grown in their back yard, which is half vegetable garden). And there were fresh-baked dinner rolls that were absolutely addictive. I must have eaten a dozen of them myself.

I am so jealous. One of the things I would love most is to have a back yard where I could raise my own vegetables. They had cabbage, celery, lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes (which, alas, weren’t ripe yet) and my absolute favorite vegetable, asparagus (unfortunately, their plants won’t produce edible product for a couple more years: asparagus is like that.)

For dessert we had watermelon, also grown right there in the garden. While my appetite isn’t usually very good, this was not the case yesterday. I totally gorged myself on everything.

Next, I think I’ll invite Myke over here to try my cooking.

Monday

Today begins my first normal week since my trip to Miami. It’s Monday, or as I sometimes call it, “Matt Drinks For Free Day.” It’s trivia day down at the Saloon, and for every game I win I get a free drink. And I usually always win, unless Myke distracts me with something shiny, like he did when he gave me that new video camera.

First, I’ll probably head down to Aliveness for lunch. They’re having chili today, and they usually do a pretty good job with that. It’s not as spicy as mine, but it’s tasty and they usually have my favorite accouterments to go with it: grated cheddar cheese and sour cream. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.
